Vaccinations and Immunizations

Vaccinations are required before our children enter the public school system and most private schools require them as well. Vaccination is Vaccinations and Immunizationsthe administration of substances (antigens) that stimulate the immune system of one’s body to develop viral or bacterial neutralizing responses (antibodies), as it would to a disease. Vaccines can prevent or significantly reduce the effects of infection. The practice of vaccination has been studied and verified all around the world. Likewise, people all over the world have benefited from the chicken pox vaccine, the HPV vaccine, and the influenza vaccine, for example. At Front Range Primary Care, vaccination is most effective in preventing infectious diseases. Flu shots use this method to brace the immune system before flu season.

Immunization occurs when an individual's immune system becomes strengthened against a specific type of antigen, called an immunogen. Immunogens directly stimulate a more active immune response and bolster immunity to specific diseases, whereas in vaccinations, antigens combine with the body’s immune response to train it to handle specific threats more readily.

At Front Range Primary Care, we provide immunizations and vaccinations at normally occurring intervals during childhood and other times for adults, as needed, for the following:

  • Pneumonia
  • Polio
  • Meningitis
  • Influenza
  • Ear Infections
  • International Travel
  • Tetanus
  • Measles
  • Mumps
  • Rubella
  • Chicken Pox
  • Diphtheria

Whether due to vaccination or already having encountered an illness and building natural immunity, those who are immune to diseases provide protection to others who are not immune because spread of the disease is significantly reduced.

At Front Range Primary Care, we understand that parents want to be absolutely sure they are making the best choices for their sons and daughters. Unfortunately, conflicting information on the Internet and in the media regarding the safety of childhood vaccines can erode parents’ resolve to do the right thing. However, the safety and effectiveness of vaccinating children against dangerous illnesses has stood the test of time and has been empirically proven over generations.

Vaccinations have all but eliminated diseases like polio which used to be much more common and debilitating. Prior to vaccinations, diseases such as the following used to be life threatening and could cause permanent disability:

  • Tetanus
  • Diphtheria
  • Mumps
  • Measles
  • Whooping Cough
  • Meningitis

Today, most parents have not seen the devastating impact on families that these preventable diseases have on regions or communities. While these are not common in the United States any more, these preventable diseases are encountered in other parts of the globe. At Front Range Primary Care, we consider it our privilege and duty to continue to protect our children with vaccines.

The fact is, even in this country, there are sometimes outbreaks of diseases and if you have children, then we at Front Range are here to ensure that they are protected.
